Beach Series (2023- ongoing)

Better than alone

The series was conceived during the COVID pandemic. The surreal, apocalyptic atmosphere of the lockdowns and heightened awareness of our fragility as species prompted me to look at my surroundings with the eyes of “the last one”, searching for signs of human traits in objects that will stay long after we are gone. I chose seaside as a location because the ocean is where life began, where we came from, the place I gravitate to when I need to refuel, to lose or find myself.

*A Japanese concept of “honne” - one’s true thoughts and feelings- and “tatemae” - a “facade” one shows to the outside world- is present, to a varying degree, in most cultures.
